Blocking and Unblocking a Server
An administrator can block managed servers from receiving configuration changes. An administrator can perform this action from the Enterprise, Site Group, Site, or Server node of the Installations tree.
You can block configuration changes from a particular node of the Installations tree. When you block changes, Enterprise Manager sets a blocked flag on every server that is lower in the Installations tree hierarchy. From this point forward, Enterprise Manager sends no configuration messages to the blocked servers.
For example, if you block configuration changes from a specific Site Group node, all the managed servers in that Site Group are blocked.
You can make configuration changes in the user interface to a server while the server is blocked from receiving configuration changes. In this scenario, the new configuration changes display in the user interface, but are not actually implemented on the server. The new configuration changes are not implemented on the server until you unblock the configuration changes to that server and the managed server Server that is managed by the Enterprise Manager application. begins pulling configuration changes from the Enterprise Manager. Note that, during the period that the server is blocked, the user interface does not accurately reflect the actual configuration implemented on the server.
When you unblock the managed server, Enterprise Manager discovers the server using the process described in Server Discovery. The managed server resumes pulling configuration messages from the Enterprise Manager. Configuration changes are managed using the process described in Handling of Configuration Changes by the Enterprise Manager and Enterprise Manager Agent application. In this way, Enterprise Manager ensures that the managed server is updated with all the latest configuration changes once the server is unblocked.
